About Us
The Speech Pathologists and Audiologist Association in Nigeria (SPAAN), was established in 1987 in the Department of Special Education, University of Ibadan by Professor Clement Ayodele Bakare. It is the professional body saddled with the responsibility of accrediting training and programmes and ensuring ethical standards in the practice of Speech Pathology and Audiology in Nigeria. It is a professional body for both academics and paramedics in hospitals particularly in ENT either in private or governmental institutions and it is the Nigerian version of the Worldwide Association of Professionals in Speech and Hearing Rehabilitation.
SPAAN is under the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria and three sets of Executives have managed the Association in the past
SPAAN is registered under the Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and it is an affiliate of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigeria (MRTB).
